Biography

Prof. Dr. Teoman Kılıç graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and completed his residency in Cardiology at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine.

In 2006, he worked in the field of interventional cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University.

In 2011, he received training in interventional treatment methods for structural heart diseases and adult congenital heart diseases at the Cardiovascular Center (CVC) in Frankfurt and Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.

Since 2012, for more than 10 years, he has served as the faculty member responsible for interventional treatment methods in structural heart diseases and adult congenital heart diseases at the Department of Cardiology, Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine.

A pioneer in Turkey and at Kocaeli University in treating heart valve diseases with non-surgical, angiographic methods, Prof. Dr. Kılıç has made Kocaeli University a reference and leading center for the non-surgical treatment of heart valve diseases and especially for the transcatheter closure of prosthetic heart valve leaks.

In 2018, he published an article describing a new pulmonary valvuloplasty technique using an hourglass-shaped balloon for the treatment of pulmonary stenosis in adult patients. He also published two further important articles on the antegrade and retrograde closure of mitral paravalvular leaks without creating an arteriovenous wire loop.

Dr. Kılıç performed the first percutaneous transcatheter electrosurgery (LAMPOON and BASILICA) procedures in Turkey, the first “tip-to-base” LAMPOON procedure outside the USA, and the first LAMPOON case prior to transcatheter Myval valve implantation in the mitral position.

He has served as the national coordinator of the AFR Prophet and Prelieve studies in Turkey, as one of the coordinating centers of the AFR AFTER and PLD studies, and as one of the key centers of the European Paravalvular Leak Closure study.

Prof. Dr. Teoman Kılıç has more than 100 articles published in national and international journals, a treatment method he introduced to the world literature as the “Kılıç technique,” a clinical cardiology book he edited, and numerous book chapters published in various cardiology books.

A member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Society of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions, and the American Heart Association, Dr. Kılıç is a Past President of the Interventional Cardiology Working Group of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and currently serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Turkish Society of Cardiology.
